Tibetan
Community Overview
The Tibetan community has had roots in the Denver area since the 1950's following the occupation of Tibet by the People's Republic of China. Tibetan nationals were secretly trained by the CIA in the mountains of Colorado, but when plans for a guerilla insurgency were abandoned, many Tibetans decided to stay in Colorado.
In 1993, as a result of the passing of the Immigration Act, additional Tibetans were resettled in Colorado. Colorado is now home to over 200 Tibetans.
