The Sudanese Community in Denver is estimated to have approximately 1000 people. Refugees continue to flee horrendous conditions in Sudan, making this community one of the fastest growing in the area.

African Community Center of Denver is a refugee resettlement program which conducts educational and social services programs that help newcomers resettle in the new communities and acculturate, recover from past trauma, gain personal independence and economic self-sufficiency. In addition, the African Community Center of Denver works with African community-based organizations to provide technical assistance in developing the leadership capacity to serve their respective communities. Their community outreach promotes awareness about refugee issues and the challenges faced by newcomers.

The African Community Center of Denver is a Program office of the Ethiopian Community Development Council Inc. (ECDC), a community based organization headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. ECDC is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization.

The primary mission of Colorado Friends of the Lost Boys of Sudan (CFLBS) to assist in the education, job training and general welfare of Sudanese refugees living in Colorado known as the Lost Boys and Girls of Sudan who have been orphaned, or otherwise profoundly disrupted, by a prolonged civil war in their country. Because the financial needs are great, the CFLBS Board writes and submits grants to various foundations, as well as conducting fundraisers.

Ecumenical Refugee Services (ERS) helps to resettle refugees and asylees who came to Colorado through Church World Service and Episcopal Migration Ministries, by providing them assistance with educational needs, family and social services, medical attention, employment, and cultural orientation. The main goal of ERS is to help refugees become self-sufficient and independent as quickly as possible.

This agency provides services, support and encouragement to newcomers as they adjust to life in the United States. In many cases, LFS works with a co-sponsoring congregation or community organization to provide basic services.

Nuba Water Project is a humanitarian organization working in Sudan, an East African country racked by decades of civil war. Founded by two Sudanese refugees now living in the United States and a Denver businessman, Nuba Water Project is bringing “water and life” to the people of Sudan. The Project raises funds to construct water infrastructure and refugee housing that are in desperately short supply throughout Sudan, and especially in the Nuba Mountains.

Project Education Sudan is a US 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, whose mission is to fund and support indigenous Sudanese organizations and communities that create educational infrastructure in rural southern Sudan. We support building of primary and secondary schools, as well as adult education and teacher training. We are committed to bringing clean water and healthcare to the communities we work with. We believe that sustained prosperity and self-sufficiency in southern Sudan is dependent on the education of children and adults.  We emphasize the inclusion of girls and women as beneficiaries of our work in Sudan.
