East Asia & Pacific

Denver Community Overview

Denver's East Asian and Pacific communities are diverse and have roots that date to the 1800's. Many of the immigrants that traveled to Denver started out in large U.S. coastal cities such as New York and Boston. Some came as visitors and students, others immigrated eastward from the Pacific Coast to work on the railroad and in the coal mines and later in farming.

Although many of Denver's early East Asian and Pacific immigrants have since assimilated into the general culture there are neighborhoods and noteworthy establishments throughout the city that reflect their rich traditions through markets, churches, restaurants, local businesses and art galleries.

Denver is a sister city with Kunming, China; Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; and Takayama, Japan.
